Course Completion Guide

A. General Education (Required)

All students must complete the required general education courses. The credit requirements differ by entry year as follows.

① Entry year ≤ 2017

Complete a total of 14 credits including Writing (2cr), English Certification (4cr), Physical Education (2cr), and Integrated HASS (6cr).
[PE requirement: 2 credits total — Health & Fitness (1cr) and one additional PE course (1cr).]

② Entry year 2018–2019

Complete a total of 13 credits including Writing (2cr), English Program (4cr), Physical Education (2cr), Integrated HASS (3cr), and University Life & Career Design I·II (2cr).
[PE requirement: 2 credits total — Health & Fitness (1cr) and one additional PE course (1cr).]

③ Entry year ≥ 2020

Complete a total of 12 credits including Writing (2cr), English Program (4cr), Physical Education (2cr), Integrated HASS (3cr), and University Life & Career Design I·II (1cr).
[PE requirement: 2 credits total — Health & Fitness (1cr) and one additional PE course (1cr).]

B. General Education (Elective)

① Entry year ≤ 2017

In addition to the required general education above, complete at least 15 credits from the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts areas.

② Entry year ≥ 2018

In addition to the required general education above, complete at least 18 elective GE credits, including a minimum of 3 credits each in the [Humanities & Arts] and [Social Sciences] areas.

C. Foundational Courses

Foundational courses are prerequisites that prepare students for major coursework. They are categorized into Foundational Required and Foundational Elective courses.

D. Major (Required)

Major required courses must be completed to fulfill degree requirements. Credit requirements vary by department. Some departments may divide them into Common Required and Selective Required major courses.

E. Major (Elective)

All major courses other than Major Required are considered Major Electives. Students may select courses aligned with their specialization or prospective graduate study plans. Where recognized by department policy, certain courses offered by other departments may also count as Major Electives.

F. Free Electives

Free Electives include GE or major courses outside a student’s primary major taken by choice. In some cases, courses from professional graduate programs may be recognized as Free Electives. Concentrated study in a particular area can lead to pursuing a Minor, Convergence Minor, or Double Major based on completed coursework.

G. Practical (Required) — applicable to entry years 2011–2017

Practical Required courses must be completed to satisfy the Practical Liberal Education curriculum. The required units are 2 units for University Life & Career Design.

H. Practical (Elective) — applicable to entry years 2011–2017

Practical Electives refer to all Practical GE courses other than the Practical Required courses. There is no maximum unit limit; students must complete at least 5 units.
