Hanjun Park, an undergraduate in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering who entered in 2021 (advisor: Professor Dong-Yeop Na), won Bronze in Category 2 of the 43rd University Student Mathematics Competition, organized by the Korean Mathematical Society.
Held nationwide each year to assess university students’ mathematical thinking and problem-solving abilities and identify outstanding talent, this year’s competition took place on November 1, 2025, with results officially announced on December 3. Evaluation was divided into Categories 1 and 2.
As an Electrical Engineering student, Park achieved an outstanding result in Category 2 through the mathematical knowledge and logical thinking underlying his major. The award demonstrates how the strong mathematical foundation required in electrical engineering can translate into success in an academic competition.
POSTECH Mathematics students also achieved success. In Category 1, Minjun Kim, who entered in 2023, won Silver, and Kwangwoon Baek, who entered in 2024, won Bronze; both are advised by Professor Bogwang Jeon.
Park’s award shows that Electrical Engineering students can successfully take on nationwide mathematics competitions. It is expected to raise awareness of this competition and encourage students in the department to take an interest in and actively participate in diverse academic contests.
