Si-hyun Ha, an integrated master's/Ph.D. student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Yo-sep Jeon, received an Outstanding Paper Award at the KICS 2025 Summer Conference for “A LoRA Technique for Heterogeneous Federated Fine-Tuning.”
With more than 2,000 attendees, the KICS Summer Conference is one of Korea's largest academic conferences in electrical and electronic engineering.
The research proposed Rank-Aware Aggregation, which applies rank-level weights to address rank heterogeneity when clients use different Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) ranks in federated learning.
By decomposing LoRA modules rank-wise and designing weights reflecting each client's dataset size and rank information, the method enables more efficient model aggregation.
