Junwoo Kim, an undergraduate in POSTECH Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Dong-Yeop Na), received an Undergraduate Excellence Award at the 2025 KIEES Summer Conference Undergraduate Paper Competition for “Design of Dielectric Structures with Asymmetric Light Transmission for Radiative Cooling.”

The study evaluated cooling performance in two-dimensional dielectric structures with asymmetric infrared transmission for passive radiative cooling, accounting for thermal radiation at arbitrary incidence angles. It used finite-element electromagnetic simulations with two-dimensional Bloch-periodic boundary conditions to calculate transmission and reflection spectra at different angles. The work was recognized for quantitatively analyzing cooling temperatures through thermal radiation energy balances.
