Seongjun Han, a master’s student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Wonbin Hong), received an Outstanding Paper Award at the 2025 Summer Conference hosted by the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science. His paper was titled “Single-RF Chain 60 GHz Planar Antenna Supporting Wide Radiation in Both E- and H-Planes.”

The study proposed an antenna that reliably provides broad radiation coverage in both the E- and H-planes in the 60 GHz band. Overcoming limitations of earlier studies that achieved coverage in only one plane or showed unstable performance as frequency changed, it experimentally demonstrated stable performance even when integrated with a communication module.

Actual video transmission experiments also showed smooth communication despite misalignment between the transmitter and receiver.

Academically, these results presented a new approach to achieving wide-angle radiation characteristics. Industrially, they established a foundation for next-generation applications such as wireless displays, short-range ultrahigh-speed data transmission, and real-time video streaming. In recognition of these achievements, the research was selected for an Outstanding Paper Award at the 2025 KIEES Summer Conference.
