Minsu Jeong (Master’s Student) Wins Outstanding Poster Award at the KIEES Summer Conference

Awards | 2025-08-28

Minsu Jeong, a master’s student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Wonbin Hong), received an Outstanding Poster Award at the 2025 Summer Conference hosted by the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science. His paper was titled “Comparative Analysis of Scalar and Tensor Holographic Antennas for K-Band Circularly Polarized CubeSat Applications.”

The paper presented a new approach to simultaneously addressing two major challenges in CubeSat antenna design: size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints, and the realization of high gain and circular polarization.

Compared with conventional isotropic unit-cell structures, an antenna design based on anisotropic surface impedance enables continuous phase control of electric fields with different polarization components. The study demonstrated improved circular polarization purity and beam gain even within CubeSat volume and payload weight limits.

It also systematically clarified improvements in radiation efficiency from tensor holographic antennas for CubeSat applications, establishing a foundation for industrial use in next-generation satellite communications, remote sensing, radar sensing, and other fields.

The originality and excellence of these results were recognized with an Outstanding Poster Award at the 2025 KIEES Summer Conference.
