[Award] Professor Su Seok Choi’s Team Wins Outstanding Paper Award at IMID 2024

Awards | 2025-01-06

Jiyoon Park, a PhD student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering and the paper’s first author (advisor: Professor Su Seok Choi), received an Outstanding Paper Award at the International Meeting on Information Display (IMID 2024), a globally prestigious display conference. The paper was titled “Advanced Multiform Shape Bendings for Deformable Devices Using Piezoelectric Actuators.”

The study fabricated thin, flexible actuators based on piezoelectric polymers, which convert electrical and mechanical energy. The resulting technology simultaneously produces shape deformation and sound in response to electrical signals.

Conventional bendable display technology relied on applying physical force to flexible display panels to change their shape. By using thin, flexible film actuators that respond to electrical signals to induce deformation, this research increases the potential for practical flexible electronic device applications.

The results are expected to suggest applications in diverse electronic devices, including next-generation displays and wearables.

The research was supported by LG Display’s funding program and the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology’s Display Innovation Process Program.
