Mingon Cho, a master’s student, and Inhyuk Lee and Kyungmin Lee, PhD students in POSTECH Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Kyung-Tae Kim), received a Best Paper Award at the 2023 Summer Conference hosted by the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science for “SAR Image Super-Resolution Using Compressed Sensing.”

The paper demonstrated a method of improving image resolution by expanding the bandwidth of existing images using orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP), a compressed-sensing technique. Applied to KOMPSAT-5 SAR images, the method improved azimuth resolution, as verified through PSLR, ISLR, and resolution measurements, earning recognition for its academic merit.
