Soon-seong Lee of the Nano-Tera Photonics Laboratory, advised by Professor Hae-wook Han, received an Outstanding Paper Gold Award at the International Meeting on Information Display (IMID 2010).

The award is part of the inaugural KIDS Awards, sponsored by LG Display and Samsung Electronics, which recognize two outstanding papers.

Lee's “Local Dimming In Edge-Type Light Emitting Diode Backlight Units” applied local dimming to edge-type backlight units. The results enable ultralight, ultrathin, large displays with high contrast and low power consumption.

The ceremony was held on October 1, the first Display Day, and Lee received a plaque and KRW 6 million.
