2012 Alumni–Student Conversations

The department held a meaningful gathering inviting alumni active in diverse fields to meet current students. At the 2012 Alumni–Student Conversations on Friday, November 9, three alumni candidly shared their university experiences and career paths.

Sewon Lim, entered in 2001. Experience: SK telesys, January 2009–May 2010; Songyeon Patent & Law Office, June 2010–February 2012. Education: bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, POSTECH, March 2001–February 2009; Techno MBA, KAIST College of Business, February 2012–present. Qualification: patent attorney.

Wanil Kim, entered in 1988. Experience: Senior Principal Researcher, Mando, March 2000–December 2008; Research Institute Director/Assistant Managing Director, Mando-Hella Electronics, January 2009–present. Education: bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, POSTECH, March 1988–February 1993; master's in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, KAIST, advised by Myung Jin Chung, March 1993–February 1995; doctorate in Electrical Engineering, POSTECH, advised by Sangchul Won, March 1995–August 2000.

Achievements: independent ECU development/production for ABS/ESC and EPS systems for domestic/overseas OEMs; development/production of active-safety sensors, including inertial, torque, and angle sensors; Korea's first localized development/production of 24 GHz automotive radar for blind-spot/rear warning systems; task-force member for establishing a joint venture with Germany's Hella.

Experience: Manager, Penta Security Systems, January 2004–January 2005; Principal Researcher, Samsung Electronics Corporate Technology Software Research Center, February 2005–April 2008; Senior Principal Researcher, WIDI Lab, June 2008–August 2010; Director, How's Consulting, October 2010–May 2011; Director, NEXTOMO, June 2011–January 2012; Department Head, Penta Security Systems, February 2012–present.

Education: bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, POSTECH, March 1992–February 1996; master's in Electrical Engineering, POSTECH, advised by Pil Joong Lee, March 1996–February 1998; master's in Electrical Engineering, POSTECH, advised by Pil Joong Lee, March 1998–February 2004.

Activities: PosB SYSOP; domestic/international standardization of information security algorithms; Samsung Electronics company-wide DRM control tower; numerical algorithm design; new business and technology planning.
