2012 KICS Outstanding Paper Award

Awards | 2013-01-02

Paper: “Coordinated Beamforming Scheme Based on Signal and Interference Alignment for Two-Cell MU-MIMO.” Authors: Yosep Jeon, Youngjin Kim, and Ki Hong Im.

Professor Im’s team drew attention at the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences Fall Conference, held in November of the previous year, 2012, by proposing a way to improve spectral efficiency in cooperative communications, a next-generation mobile communication approach.

The paper proposed a beamforming technique based on cooperation between two different base stations and was recognized for effectively improving the spectral efficiency of multiuser multiple-input multiple-output mobile communication systems.

The inter-base-station cooperative communication considered in the paper can also be applied to interference avoidance when cognitive radio (CR) devices coexist. Related results were published in a special section of the December 2012 issue of IEEE Communications Magazine, a leading IEEE communications journal.

Only two of approximately 300 papers presented at the fall conference received Outstanding Paper Awards. The award ceremony is scheduled for the winter conference at Yongpyong Resort in late January of this year, 2013.

Lead author: Yosep Jeon.
