Prime Minister’s Award (Gold Prize) at the 16th Korea Semiconductor Design Contest—Open Topic Category.

Shinwoong Kim, a graduate student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering, and his advisor, Professor Jae-Yoon Sim, received the Gold Prize (Prime Minister’s Award) at the 16th Korea Semiconductor Design Contest.

They received the award for “A 2GHz Fully Synthesized Fractional-N ADPLL with Dual-Referenced Interpolating TDC,” submitted to the open topic category.

The design can be used in communication circuits as well as general digital systems. It is expected to shorten the time required for design and fabrication and, because it is fully digital, offer high compatibility with other commercial chips.

Jointly hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, the Korea Semiconductor Design Contest aims to identify semiconductor design intellectual property and foster the semiconductor IP industry. Now in its 16th year, it comprises an open topic category for researchers and students at semiconductor design companies, research institutes, and universities, and a creative IP category exclusively for undergraduate and graduate students.

The award ceremony was held on the afternoon of November 7 at the Renaissance Hotel in Seoul.
