In-oh Choi and Byeong-soo Kang, graduate students in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering, and their advisor Professor Kyung-tae Kim received an Excellence Award in the 2015 Student Radio Science Paper Competition jointly organized by the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science and the Korea Communications Agency.
Their paper, “Efficient Extraction of Micro-Motion Parameters of Highly Maneuverable Low-RCS Targets Using the Micro-Doppler Frequency Function of a Sliding Scatterer,” studied discrimination between warheads and decoys in missile defense systems.
It proposed extracting warhead micro-motion parameters using a one-dimensional micro-Doppler frequency function. The method achieved approximately 80 times faster computation and high accuracy compared with previous approaches and was recognized for validating effectiveness and robustness using measured data.
The ceremony took place on the morning of Friday, November 27, 2015, at COEX in Seoul.
