Professor Wonbin Hong of POSTECH Electrical Engineering recently secured a project with POSTECH, Tsinghua University in China, and Korean venture company Hanshin Vision, administered by the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology. The project is titled “A WiGig Wireless Module for Bidirectional Wireless Video/Data Transmission and Reception for VR HMDs.”

The project plans to apply ultrahigh-speed wireless transmission using multiple antennas in the millimeter-wave band to augmented and virtual reality for the first time worldwide. With commercialization as its ultimate goal, the research is expected to establish an advanced industry–university–research collaboration model based in POSTECH Electrical Engineering.

Research period: September 2017–August 2020 (three years).

Funding: KRW 2 billion.
