Min-soo Choi, Soo-eun Lee, and Myeong-guk Lee, Ph.D. students in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering, together with Professor Byung-sub Kim, received the Korean Intellectual Property Office Commissioner's Award at the 18th Korea Semiconductor Design Contest organized by the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association.
Their entry was “An Automatically Adaptive Transmitter That Overcomes the Limitations of Impedance Matching and Supports Channels and Receivers with Various Impedances.”
The transmitter accurately detects the impedance of an arbitrary channel and receiver, then finds and automatically sets the optimal impedance to maximize the signal delivered to the receiver without compromising signal integrity.
The design is compatible with channels and receivers of almost any impedance and substantially improves performance and power efficiency compared with impedance matching. It is therefore expected to find applications across a wide range of industrial technologies.
