On October 23, Hwanjin Kim, a master’s student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering (thesis advisor: Professor Junil Choi), received an ICT Paper Excellence Award at the 9th IDIS–Electronic Times ICT Paper & Invention PPT Competition, jointly hosted by IDIS and Electronic Times. His paper was titled “Channel AoA Estimation for Massive MIMO Systems Using One-Bit ADCs.”

The paper proposed an algorithm for estimating channel angles of arrival (AoA) in massive MIMO systems using one-bit magnitude-aided ADCs and a hybrid beamforming architecture. This allows channel AoA estimation with a small number of one-bit ADCs, reducing both ADC power consumption and cost.

The 9th IDIS–Electronic Times Competition was organized to nurture outstanding science and engineering talent, discover fresh ideas from undergraduate and graduate students in information and communication technology (ICT), and encourage research activities.

Seven papers received awards in the ICT paper category, with two teams receiving Excellence Awards.
