Seung-ho Lee, a Ph.D. student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Chang-gi Baek, received the SK hynix Award in the oral session category at the 24th Korean Conference on Semiconductors for “Differential 3ω Method for Measuring Thermal Conductivity of Silicon Nanowire.”
The paper proposed a differential 3ω method to measure thermal conductivity, a key indicator of thermoelectric device performance. It accurately measured vertical silicon nanowires and thin films less than a few micrometers thick, which were difficult to assess using commercial methods such as flash and heat-flow-meter techniques.
The results confirmed silicon nanowires' potential as thermoelectric materials and addressed limitations of existing systems, reducing measurement time and cost with potential across research and industry.
The conference received 776 papers, with outstanding oral and poster papers recognized.
