[Award] Min-seok Kang Wins Top Excellence in the 2017 Student Radio Science Paper Competition

Awards | 2017-11-28

Min-seok Kang, a Ph.D. student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Kyung-tae Kim, received the Top Excellence Award, the Korea Communications Agency President's Award, at the 16th Student Radio Science Paper Competition in 2017, jointly organized by the agency and KIEES.

His paper, “Improving Satellite SAR System Performance through Antenna Beam Pattern Optimization,” designed a mask satisfying system performance constraints and used an improved particle swarm optimization method to produce a matching antenna pattern.

The method was recognized for more efficient beam-pattern optimization than existing approaches and the resulting ability to optimize satellite SAR performance parameters.

Held annually to identify and develop outstanding radio-science talent and promote the field, the competition presented awards to six papers, including two Top Excellence recipients. The ceremony took place on Thursday, November 23, at The-K Hotel Seoul.
