Professor Emeritus Kyung-hoon Jeon Receives the Haedong Technology Grand Prize

Professor Emeritus Kyung-hoon Jeon of POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering, an Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics, received the Haedong Technology Grand Prize.

He developed the world's first ultrahigh-speed adaptive hybrid-beamforming 5G wireless communication system in the microwave band and demonstrated 1.2 Gbps transmission while moving at 110 km/h using a 5G millimeter-wave system. He contributed to the FCC and WRC-15 selecting 24–29 GHz microwave bands as candidate 5G frequencies.

While at POSTECH, he trained approximately 50 master's and Ph.D. graduates. His 129 domestic/international journal and conference papers, including 63 international journal papers, and 92 registered and pending patents were recognized as major contributions to Korea's ICT industry.

The ceremony took place on December 1 at 17:00 in Grand Ballroom A, basement level 1 of the annex at the Sheraton Seoul Palace Gangnam Hotel.
