Ji-wook Choi, an integrated master's/Ph.D. student, and Yoon-seo Nam, an undergraduate in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Nam-yoon Lee, received the Bronze Award in Communication & Networks at Samsung Electronics' 24th Humantech Paper Awards for “Spatial Lattice Modulation for MIMO Systems.” The prize was KRW 5 million.
The paper proposed a new modulation technique for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. By encoding messages using both antenna patterns and constellation sets, it achieves high spectral efficiency.
It also proposed lattice sphere decoding that exploits the lattice structure, allowing high spectral efficiency with low complexity. The modulation technique is expected to have diverse applications in wireless communications.
The ceremony was held on February 7 at Samsung's Seocho headquarters in Seoul.
