Hwan-jin Kim, a master's student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Jun-il Choi, received the Best Paper Award (Huawei Paper Award), with KRW 1 million, at the 28th Joint Conference on Communications and Information for “Channel Estimation Using Spatiotemporal Correlation in One-Bit Massive MIMO Systems.”
The paper proposed channel estimation using both temporal and spatial channel correlation. It represented one-bit-quantized received signals in linear form through Bussgang decomposition and estimated the channel using a Kalman filter.
Estimation accuracy improved across time slots relative to existing techniques. Unlike previous studies, the use of both temporal and spatial correlation to improve accuracy was highly recognized.
The conference awarded one Best Paper and three Outstanding Papers. The ceremony took place on May 3 at the Hidden Bay Hotel in Yeosu.
