Professors Sang-woo Kim and Jae-yoon Sim Selected for POSTECH's 2018 Research Highlights

Articles | 2018-07-04

Among the university's 20 research highlights of the year were “An Early Fault Diagnosis Algorithm for Preventing Motor Accidents” by Professor Sang-woo Kim and “An Ultralow-Power Single-Chip Wireless Sensor Node” by Professor Jae-yoon Sim of the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Professor Kim's research makes it easier to diagnose incipient faults, addressing a limitation of conventional motor fault diagnosis. It also overcomes the sensitivity of existing fault indicators to operating conditions, enabling applications in power plants, factories, and electric vehicles, where operating conditions change continuously.

Professor Sim's research provides a foundation for world-class interdisciplinary research in miniature healthcare systems by combining the technology with various miniature nano/biosensors. Commercialization of an ultralight personal hazardous-gas detection system using the developed chip is also underway.
