[Award] Junho Park Wins Best Student Paper Award at IEEE ISAP 2018

Awards | 2018-10-30

Junho Park, a PhD student in POSTECH Electrical Engineering (thesis advisor: Professor Wonbin Hong), won first place in Best Student Paper at the 53rd IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (ISAP 2018) for “Wideband 39 GHz Vertically-Polarized Endfire Antenna-in-Package (AiP) Array featuring Near-Planar Profile.”

The paper proposed a miniaturized 5G mobile antenna for 5G New Radio devices and demonstrated beamforming by integrating it with a 5G RFIC.

With mobile-device integration approaching its limits, shrinking 5G wireless modules is essential. Designing mobile antennas, which occupy the greatest volume in wireless hardware, is particularly challenging. The work was recognized for achieving the smallest size with excellent performance compared with research published worldwide.

The Asia-Pacific region’s largest IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society conference received 560 papers from thirty countries. Park’s paper placed first among 27 Best Student Paper candidates.
