Jiwon Kim (PhD student) wins an Outstanding Paper Award at the Korea Semiconductor & Display Technology Society (KSDT 2018).
Jiwon Kim, a PhD student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering (thesis advisor: Professor Jung-Soo Lee), received an Outstanding Paper Award at the 2018 Fall Conference hosted by the Korea Semiconductor & Display Technology Society and Yonsei University’s BIT Micro Fab Research Center. His paper was titled “Study of the Memory Characteristics of Elliptical Channels in 3D Vertically Stacked SONOS NAND Flash Memory.”
The paper analyzed memory characteristics resulting from changes in the cell structure of 3D vertically stacked NAND flash memory devices. During fabrication of these devices, cell distortion causes irregular changes in device shape. The study analyzed the resulting degradation in memory characteristics in terms of changes in the electric field along the major and minor axes of the device cross-section.
This enables realistic simulation and modeling of vertically stacked SONOS flash memory, allowing accurate analysis and prediction of changes in memory characteristics as devices are scaled down.
The 2018 Fall Conference took place on November 22 at Yonsei University’s Engineering Research Center in Seoul under the theme “Semiconductor/Display Technologies in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
