Hee-dong Do, a master's student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Nam-yoon Lee, received the Silver Award in Communication & Networks at Samsung Electronics' 25th Humantech Paper Awards for “Soft-Output Detection Method for Sparse Millimeter Wave MIMO Systems with Low-Precision ADCs.” The prize was KRW 7 million.

The paper proposed a Bayesian data-detection algorithm to overcome nonlinear quantization distortion in ultralow-power millimeter-wave MIMO systems. It showed that overcoming this distortion can achieve data reliability comparable to systems using high-resolution ADCs.

The detection method is expected to have diverse applications in ultrawideband 6G communications with massive antenna arrays.

The ceremony is scheduled for February 13 at Samsung Electronics' Seocho headquarters.
