[Award] Jongmin Park (Undergraduate Student) Selected for IEEE AICAS 2019 Student Travel Grant

Awards | 2019-05-20

Jongmin Park, a fourth-year undergraduate in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Youngjoo Lee), was selected for a Student Travel Grant for “Multi-level weight indexing scheme for memory-reduced convolutional neural networks,” presented at the IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Circuits and Systems 2019 (AICAS 2019).

The study proposed a new indexing technique and a corresponding pruning method that can reduce convolutional neural network memory requirements by up to 80% compared with previous methods, laying a foundation for running complex networks on resource-constrained embedded systems.

IEEE AICAS is a newly launched international conference of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. It featured numerous studies on efficient system design for implementing AI algorithms.

Student Travel Grants were awarded to only a small number of selected papers. Despite being an undergraduate, Park was selected in recognition of the excellence of his research.

The award ceremony took place on March 20 in Hsinchu, Taiwan.
