Hyun-seong Kim, a fourth-year undergraduate in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Young-joo Lee, received the Korean Intellectual Property Office Commissioner's Award (Bronze Prize) at the 20th Korea Semiconductor Design Contest for “Wearable device for tracking football players in real-time.”
The research designed a GPS/BLE5-based wearable device to track football players' movements in real time and implemented various filtering techniques at low power to improve measurement accuracy.
With support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association holds the contest annually to recognize outstanding ASIC/FPGA designs by university and graduate students nationwide. Recognized for the design's originality and potential impact, Kim placed second overall in the undergraduate category.
