Junho Park, a doctoral student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Wonbin Hong, won Best Student Paper at the IEEE European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP 2020) for “Metal Stamped Antenna-in-Package for Millimeter-wave Large-scale Phased-array Applications Using Multiphysics Analysis.” He is the first recipient from outside Europe in the conference's history, and this also marks the first such award in the history of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science.

EuCAP is the largest international IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society conference in Europe and one of IEEE AP-S's three major conferences. A total of 1,543 papers were submitted to EuCAP 2020. After a rigorous four-stage review, the authors won the Best Student Paper award, presented to just one paper. The authors had previously won the 1st Prize Best Paper Award at IEEE ISAP 2018, Asia's largest conference and another of the three major IEEE AP-S conferences.

The paper proposes a new design methodology for highly integrated next-generation millimeter-wave and terahertz phased-array antennas based on multiphysics electro-thermo-mechanical analysis. It was highly regarded for also demonstrating academia's first millimeter-wave phased-array antenna package design that incorporates heat removal.
