Professor Won-bin Hong of POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering was selected for a government award on the 55th Invention Day, organized by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the Korea Invention Promotion Association.

He received the Minister of Science and ICT's Commendation for contributing to the invention and commercialization of core millimeter-wave 5G mobile-device antenna technologies, a new antenna technology paradigm.

During the evaluation period, he was credited with creating new technologies in the global 5G antenna field through approximately 100 registered and pending patents, 120 academic papers, two specialized books, and 70 invited talks.

Invention Day began on May 19, 1957, and was held 16 times through 1972. It resumed in 1982 as the 17th National Invention Promotion Convention commemorating Invention Day. An amendment to the Invention Promotion Act on February 5, 1999, designated it a statutory anniversary. This year marks the 55th event.
