Professor Rok-hyun Baek of POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering has been selected for a breakthrough Basic Research Lab (BRL) project supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT. Under a three-plus-three-year agreement with KRW 500 million in annual funding, he will study “Development of an Integrated Memory AI Platform to Resolve Extremely Challenging Industrial Problems in 3D-NAND Flash.”

The team comprises Professor Hyun-cheol Choi of Yeungnam University, Dr. Min-sang Park of SK hynix, and Research Assistant Professor Jun-sik Yoon of POSTECH.

Through collaboration among experts in 3D-NAND memory processes, devices, simulation, and AI, the project aims to fundamentally solve challenges in advanced 3D-NAND flash and rapidly apply the results to the memory industry.

The breakthrough BRL track supports basic research to secure and independently develop core technologies in key industries, establishing a foundation for fundamental solutions to science and technology issues.
