Junho Park, a doctoral student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Wonbin Hong, became the first person in Korea's history to win the 1st Prize Best Student Paper at the 2020 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting (IEEE AP-S/URSI).

IEEE AP-S/URSI is the largest international conference organized by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. A total of 203 papers entered the 2020 Student Paper Competition. The authors placed first among ten finalists after a rigorous four-stage review.

The authors previously won first-prize best paper awards for different topics at the other two major IEEE AP-S conferences: IEEE EuCAP 2020, Europe's largest, and IEEE ISAP 2018, Asia's largest. Winning all three is a first in IEEE AP-S history.

The authors presented “Optically Invisible Touch Sensor Panel Integrated Antenna: Concept and Demonstration at mmWave Spectrum.” The paper proposes the first frequency-selective sensor combining optical invisibility, touch sensing, and wireless signal transmission/reception. It was implemented and embedded in a commercial device's OLED display, demonstrating QHD+ image output, touch sensing tests, and millimeter-wave 5G beamforming.

The study received the award for its novelty, excellence, and multidisciplinary character spanning radio-wave, display, advanced materials, and semiconductor engineering.
