Gi-Bong Kang, a PhD student in POSTECH Electrical Engineering, and graduate Seong-Hyeon Lee (advisor: Professor Kyung-Tae Kim) received a Best Paper Award at the 2020 Summer Conference hosted by the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science for their paper, “Real-Time Estimation of User Location and Activity Using FMCW Radar in Complex Indoor Environments.”

The authors implemented a phased-array FMCW radar system that estimates individual users’ locations and activity levels when multiple users move freely in a confined indoor space. The proposed technology is expected to serve as a smart sensing technology for future smart cities and Internet of Things environments.
