Soo-ho Jang and Dae-hyun Kim, master's students, and Young-no Yoon, a Ph.D. student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Won-bin Hong, received an Undergraduate Outstanding Paper Award at the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science's 2021 Winter Conference for “Glass-embedded Reflectarray consisting of Miniaturized Fractal Unit Cell with 2-bit Phase Quantization.”
The paper proposed an optically transparent reflectarray with the high directivity required for millimeter-wave communications. Miniaturized fractal unit cells enable a wide beam-steering range.
The structure can be embedded in indoor and outdoor glass and displays. Its visual transparency and excellent electrical characteristics are expected to help eliminate coverage blind spots in existing millimeter-wave and next-generation terahertz communications.
