Min-ho Lee, a Ph.D. student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Boo-gyun Park, received an Outstanding Paper Award (Samsung Electro-Mechanics Paper Award) at the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers' 2021 Summer Conference for “A Sparsity-Aware Affine Projection Least Mean Mixed-Norm Algorithm for Sparse Systems.” Co-recipients were Tae-seong Cho of POSTECH Electrical Engineering and Professor Boo-gyun Park.
Lee studies ways to improve adaptive filtering algorithms in various noise environments. In this paper, he improved performance by incorporating a zero attractor into an affine projection least mean mixed-norm algorithm. Zero attractors are commonly used to accelerate convergence when estimating sparse systems, such as TV transmission channels and echo paths, with adaptive filters.
