Professor Seok-hyeong Kang's team in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering — Dr. Ye-seong Kang and master's graduates Yoon-ho Park and Seong-hoon Kim — transferred a patent to Samsung Electronics for KRW 350 million.
“Neural Network Accelerator and Operating Method Thereof” (US202016751503) concerns efficient feature-map tiling for deep-learning accelerators on edge devices, minimizing memory use while improving inference accuracy.
The technology is central to mobile neural-network chip design and is expected to grow in value as accelerators become smaller and development competition intensifies.
It was developed under the Samsung Future Technology Foundation-supported project “Autonomous Accuracy Scaling for Ultralow-Power Intelligent Mobile Systems.” Samsung pursued purchase despite already holding a non-exclusive license, a contractual right to use the invention within an agreed scope, underscoring its technical value.
