Professor Byungsub Kim’s team in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering has been selected as a translational research group for the R&D Program to Promote the Utilization of Public Research Outcomes, which helps bring fundamental and core technologies to market quickly.
Jointly promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Commercializations Promotion Agency for R&D Outcomes, the program supports the advancement and practical application of outstanding fundamental and core research from universities and government-funded institutes to meet corporate needs.
Translational research groups were selected in five major core technology fields: biotechnology, nanotechnology, information and communications, climate and environment, and convergence technologies. The selected group will receive a total of KRW 8.4 billion in government R&D funding over the next three years.
The information and communications research group, led by POSTECH Professor Byungsub Kim, includes Professor Youngchan Jang of Kumoh National Institute of Technology, Professor Kyungsoo Byun of Inha University, Professor Sungjin Kim of UNIST, and Professor Minjae Lee of GIST.
The group will conduct research on practical applications of fundamental analog technologies using semiconductor layout automation software.
Professor Kim said that the group’s semiconductor layout automation software is expected to shorten analog semiconductor layout development time by up to approximately 100 times.
