Jin Hyun, an undergraduate in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Young-joo Lee, received a Best Paper Award, the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Daegu Chapter Award, at the 18th International SoC Design Conference. Co-recipients were Ph.D. student Seung-sik Moon and Professor Young-joo Lee.
In “Low-complexity voice activity detection algorithm for edge-level device,” Hyun proposed optimization techniques that improve computational complexity and power consumption by 30% compared with existing AI-based voice detection algorithms.
The research arose from an undergraduate design-project course and included system-level design and validation for practical edge IoT environments.
ISOCC, organized annually by the Institute of Semiconductor Engineers, is Korea's largest international conference on system semiconductor design. Approximately 500 domestic and international researchers attended this year's event in Jeju City, October 6–9.
