Min-ho Lee, a Ph.D. student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Boo-gyun Park, received an Outstanding Paper Award at the IEIE 2021 Fall Conference for “A Sparsity-Aware Robust Affine Projection Least Mean Mixed-Norm Algorithm Using a Step-Size Scaler.” Co-recipients were Min-soo Kim and Professor Boo-gyun Park of POSTECH Electrical Engineering.
The paper introduced a step-size scaler into the affine projection least mean mixed-norm (AP-LMMN) algorithm to minimize adaptive-filter performance degradation caused by impulsive noise, proposing the robust AP-LMMN (RAP-LMMN) algorithm.
It also introduced an l0-norm penalty into the cost function to improve convergence for sparse systems used to model acoustic echo paths and multipath wireless channels. Simulations for sparse-system identification and acoustic echo cancellation demonstrated the algorithm's advantages.
