Jae-ho Choi, a Ph.D. student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Kyung-tae Kim, received an Encouragement Award in the 2021 Aerospace Paper Competition organized by Korea Aerospace Industries for “Fusion of Target and Shadow Regions in Synthetic Aperture Radar Imagery for Improved Object Recognition.”

To improve object recognition using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery, the paper proposed jointly using the target and shadow regions in SAR images and presented a method to implement the concept.

The proposed method was highly praised for achieving better recognition accuracy than existing approaches.
