Professor Bumman Kim of Electrical Engineering has been selected for the engineering category of the fourth Kyung-Ahm Academic Prize in 2008.

The Kyung-Ahm Education and Culture Foundation, chaired by Geum-jo Song, also selected KAIST Professor Jong-kyung Chung in life sciences, Yonsei Professor Jeong-han Kim in natural sciences, former Seoul National University Professor Myeong-hwan Jeong in humanities/social sciences, and ceramic artist Kwang-cho Yoon in the arts.

Established in February 2004 by businessman and educator Geum-jo Song to nurture future talent and advance scholarship, the prize is known for its high prestige and substantial award money.

Professor Kim is internationally recognized for microwave monolithic integrated circuits and mobile-communications power amplifiers, particularly gallium-arsenide MMIC research. Related high-speed integrated-circuit technologies are widely used in U.S. defense systems and are now extending to mobile RF circuit development.

The ceremony is scheduled for November 7 at 15:30 in the second-floor conference room of Nurimaru, Haeundae. Each recipient receives KRW 100 million.
