Professor Emeritus Bumman Kim of POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering has received the 2023 IEEE MTT-S Microwave Application Award.

He earned his Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University in 1979 and worked on semiconductor device development at organizations including Texas Instruments' Central Research Laboratories. He joined POSTECH Electrical Engineering in 1989 and served as Namgo Chair Professor and Director of the Microwave Application Research Center.

He has authored over 500 international journal and conference papers and made major contributions to bringing Korea's semiconductor research to world-class standards.

Professor Kim served on the POSTECH Electrical Engineering faculty until 2017. He is a full member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, and a Fellow of IEEE and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
