An AI semiconductor paper by Professor Yoon Young Chung’s team in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering, including integrated MS/PhD student Sungmin Park and PhD students Suwon Sung and Gilsu Jeon, has been selected as a cover article in Advanced Electronic Materials, a prominent journal in semiconductor devices and materials.

In “Highly Linear and Symmetric Analog Neuromorphic Synapse Based on Metal Oxide Semiconductor Transistors with Self-Assembled Monolayer for High-Precision Neural Network Computation,” the team proposed a new AI semiconductor architecture consisting of two connected transistors made from oxide semiconductor materials widely used in the display industry, overcoming limitations of conventional neuromorphic semiconductors.

By separating information storage and processing regions within the electronic device, the researchers greatly improved stability. They achieved overwhelmingly better performance than prior studies in multiple AI semiconductor metrics, including linearity, symmetry, and multilevel weight programming.

Moving beyond earlier research focused on developing new materials, the team used oxide semiconductors with proven reliability and mass-production capability to create high-performance AI semiconductor devices. The work’s academic excellence was recognized through its selection as a cover article.
