Awards | 2023-05-25

POSTECH Electrical Engineering students Myungjin Hwang, Youngno Yoon, Cheonga Lee, Daehyun Kim, and Donggeun Ahn (advisor: Professor Wonbin Hong) received second prize for Best Conference Paper at the 2023 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology.

IEEE iWAT, organized in association with IEEE AP-S, is a leading international conference sharing advances in antenna design, advanced electromagnetic materials, compact antenna theory and practice, medical antennas, millimeter-wave/terahertz technologies, and metamaterials. This year it was held in Aalborg, Denmark.

The authors placed second after rigorous judging among eight finalists. Together with integrated MS/PhD student Beomhyeon Kim’s first-prize Best Student Paper, this marked the first time one group won first and second prizes across the categories.

Their paper, “Wireless Channel-Adaptive Sensor-Integrated Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Based on Deep Neural Network,” first proposed a sensing-enabled actively controlled radio surface incorporating deep learning, demonstrated using a commercial millimeter-wave terminal.

The work was recognized for originality, innovation, significance to the antenna and propagation community, potential impact, and technical merit.
