Yong-hoon Song and Yoon-sik Kim, Ph.D. students in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Yoon-young Chung, presented “A Wearable Neck Microphone for Voice Measurement in Noisy Environments” at the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers (IEIE) 2023 Summer Conference, held June 28–30 at the Lotte Hotel in Jungmun, Jeju. The paper, with Professor Chung as corresponding author, received an Outstanding Student Paper Award in recognition of its academic excellence.
The team developed a wearable neck microphone that measures only the wearer's voice in noisy environments and removes the internal noise inherent in MEMS devices using a real-time adaptive filter.
The technology is expected to support convenient communication in noisy factories, military settings, construction sites, and other environments.
