Jeongwon Choi, a PhD student in POSTECH Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Youngjoo Lee), received a Best Paper Award at the Semiconductor Engineering Conference held on December 1.
His paper, “Development of NB-LDPC Decoder Hardware for Storage,” presented techniques to improve the practicality of non-binary LDPC codes, a next-generation error-correction solution for storage media. Supported by Samsung Electronics’ Memory Business, the research proposed optimizations that consider circuit design at the decoding algorithm stage. It was recognized for combining these with design ideas for highly efficient operation to achieve world-leading implementation efficiency.
