Yeeun Ko, a combined MS/PhD student in POSTECH Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Soo-Yong Chae), received a Best Paper Award at the 2023 Fall Conference of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics for “Online Capacitance Estimation for Parallel DC–DC Converters Using Beat-Frequency Components.”

The paper proposed estimating capacitance and equivalent series resistance (ESR) through short-time Fourier transform (STFT) analysis of beat-frequency components in parallel DC–DC converters operating at different switching frequencies. The technique requires no external signal injection and is expected to extend to power conversion systems for various renewable distributed energy sources.
