Beomhyeon Kim, an integrated MS/PhD student in POSTECH Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Wonbin Hong), won Best Student Paper at IEEE EuCAP 2024 for “A Completely Overlapped Ku- and Ka-Band Dual-Polarized Phased Array for Simultaneous Terrestrial and Satellite Communications.”

This is the group’s second win in four years, following its 2020 award as the first Asian recipients in the conference’s history.

The European Conference on Antennas and Propagation is Europe’s largest international IEEE AP-S conference and one of the society’s three major conferences. This year it was held in Glasgow, Scotland, UK.

Of 987 submitted papers, Kim’s was the sole Best Student Paper winner following four rigorous assessment stages.

Based on shared-aperture concepts and cavity-model analysis, it proposed a new dual-band, dual-polarized phased-array design methodology maximizing spatial efficiency and antenna performance. Its scalability to new frequency bands and compact structural advantages for new applications were highly valued.
