Dongseop Lee, an integrated MS/PhD student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering (thesis advisor: Professor Wonbin Hong), won the Grand Prize at the 9th Electromagnetic Measurement Paper Competition in 2024, hosted by the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science.
His paper was titled “Development of a Novel Multiphysics Evaluation Metric for Precise Measurement of FOWLP Antenna Performance: Equivalent Loss Modeling, Die Shift Tolerance, and Thermal Analysis.”
The competition helps undergraduate and master’s/doctoral students studying electromagnetics at Korean universities recognize the importance of electromagnetic measurement as a foundation of research. It also promotes accurate techniques based on measurement standards and supports talent development.
Drawing on thermodynamics, electromagnetics, and nanotechnology, the paper proposed a new multiphysics evaluation metric for precise measurement of fan-out wafer-level package antenna performance. It demonstrated future application technologies for 5G/6G communications, radar and sensing semiconductors, and wireless communication systems.
The research received the Grand Prize for its originality, excellence, and distinctive integration of radio science, thermodynamics, mechanical engineering, and semiconductor engineering.
