Myeongseon Kim, a PhD student in POSTECH Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Wonbin Hong), received a Mojgan Daneshmand Grant at the 2024 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and ITNC-UNSC-URSI Radio Science Meeting (IEEE AP-S/URSI).

Established in 2021 to highlight women’s achievements in radio science and encourage their leadership, the award selects only twelve recipients worldwide annually. This is the first recipient from Korea. Selection considers research project innovation, publications, and domestic and international conference awards.

Kim’s project, “Sub-Degree Direction-of-Arrival Retrieval under Multipath Propagation Conditions in the UWB Spectrum using Antenna-on-Display,” aims at highly precise positioning in indoor multipath environments.

It proposes a highly directional UWB antenna-on-display that operates effectively within mobile devices’ limited space and develops a positioning algorithm that provides corrected location information while accounting for complex indoor propagation. Combining antenna technology and positioning systems, it proposes a new level of localization and is expected to expand applications in future mobile and IoT devices.
