Beomhyeon Kim, an integrated MS/PhD student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Wonbin Hong), has been selected for the 2024 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) Fellowship Program.

The fellowship selects only a few recipients worldwide through rigorous application review. Each year, IEEE AP-S awards it to advance the education of doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers with outstanding research records and strong potential for future achievements.

Kim was selected for this year’s USD 5,000 fellowship in recognition of the originality of his research project proposal, 39 papers, and six awards at domestic and international conferences.

His project, “Shared Aperture Antenna System in Mobile Devices,” combines electromagnetics, displays, circuit systems, and communication engineering. It proposes a new paradigm for applying the shared-aperture concept from antenna design theory, beam synthesis, and multifunctional technologies through device-level extensions involving antenna modules and power combining, and onward to application-level beam management and MIMO systems.
